Miles Evans (left) and Ian Satterfield (right) stand before a crowd of about 45,000 people in attendance to witness the Opening Ceremonies for the Pan American Games of Toronto 2015.
Background
Growing up in Manhattan Beach and being the tallest kid in his class, Ian was fated to play volleyball. He attended Mira Costa High School and played for the boys indoor team. In 2008 his squad brought home a Southern Section CIF Division I Championship for the Mustangs. Winning that match in front of all of his friends, family, and city was arguably the greatest feeling of his life.
Ian continued his volleyball career at Long Beach State where played right side for the men’s Division I indoor team. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Marketing. It was during his time in college that Ian’s teammates began to refer to him by his middle name, Woo, and it has stuck ever since.
After college, Ian switched from playing indoor volleyball to beach volleyball. He represented Team USA in two Pan American Games: Toronto in 2015 and Peru in 2019. Ian has been competing on both domestic and international professional beach volleyball tours around the world with hopes of going to the 2028 Olympics for Beach Volleyball.
Professional Indoor Contract 2022
Ian signed a contract to compete in the RuPay Prime Volleyball League in India (January-March). He played for the Kolkata Thunderbolts and his position: Universal.
